| General Description of Program The Internship Program for the Department of Finance and Economics at Texas State University-San Marcos is a non-mandatory program. A student who wishes to participate must enroll in either Finance 4390 or Economics 4390, dependent on the discipline of the student. Enrollment is discretionary with the department and is granted only upon review by the internship coordinator. It is important for students to understand that the department does not place students in internships. It is the obligation of the student to find and obtain the internship opportunity. The department will post both electronically and physically those internship opportunities of which it is apprised and which appear to be of the type desired by the department. At a minimum, in order to qualify to enroll in either FIN 4390 or ECO 4390, a student must:
Note that approval is not guaranteed. Consideration of other factors may alter the determination by the internship coordinator of the appropriateness of granting approval. Generally, upon approval, the student will be expected to register for the appropriate course (be aware that there is an additional $75.00 course fee attached to each course) The specific requirements to receive credit for the internship are:
Grading for the internship is pass/fail. NOTE: FIN 4390 IS NOT considered an advanced finance elective. It is only considered a free elective. ECO 4390 is considered an advanced economics elective. Requirements for Consideration of Internship Application In order to consider the approval of an internship, the student must meet the minimum requirements above and have completed the Student Application (link below), have secured an internship employer, have secured a completed Employer's Information form (link below), and have submitted the Student Application and Employer's Information forms to the internship coordinator. After review by the coordinator and contact with the employer, the coordinator may approve the internship if perceived appropriate after evaluation. For an application to be considered it must be received within the timelines below unless prior arrangements have been made.
