Certification Program

Certified Financial Planner Program

The Certified Financial Planner designation is awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.  The CFP® curriculum offered through the Department of Finance and Economics is approved by the Board of Standards as a registered program.

The course of study through the Department of Finance and Economics consists of 15 hours of upper-level business courses in finance and accounting, plus prerequisite courses. McCoy College students pursuing this program should consult with their academic advisor regularly to ensure that all requirements are met.  The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards has additional requirements beyond the Texas State University CFP® coursework, such as an undergraduate degree or its equivalent as well as passing the national exam.  Any interested person should be familiar with the granting organization's criteria.

The course of study is available to McCoy College students and non-degree seeking students.
